Why we built it
Independent operators needed a front door that wasn't a commission line
The big travel agents and OTAs are built around fleets with hundreds of cars and a brand renters already recognise. A two or three car operator competing for the same renter's attention usually has word of mouth, whatever Google decides to show that week, and not much else, and every other distribution route on offer takes a cut of a day rate that is already thin.
Indie Hire exists because the fleet, the photos and the rates were already sitting in Glovebox. A listing did not need to be a second catalogue typed out by hand somewhere else, and it did not need to cost anything either. So it reads straight from the data you already keep here, it is free, and the booking still happens on your own site.
Setup
Ask us, and we switch it on for your workspace
List on Indie Hire is rolling out gradually, so there is no self-serve toggle yet. Ask us and we will turn it on for your tenant. Once it is on, Settings, Integrations, List on Indie Hire appears with everything you need: what to publish, your connection status, and the switch itself.

Choose what to list
Every active vehicle class, until you say otherwise
The first time you open the page, every active vehicle class and individually sold vehicle is ticked. Untick anything you do not want renters finding on Indie Hire, click Save selection, then switch the connection on. Come back and change the selection whenever you like; it takes effect on the next sync.
Tick vehicle classes and individual vehicles. Unticked ones never appear on Indie Hire.
Sync and booking hand-off
Updates flow automatically. The booking still happens on your page.
Change a photo, a rate or take a vehicle out of service, and Glovebox tells Indie Hire so it can refresh what it shows, with a full reconcile once a day regardless. When a renter clicks Book now, they land on your own Glovebox booking page with their dates carried over. It is a direct booking on your site, not a channel sale with a fee attached.
The connection only ever reads what is needed to show your listing.
Staying in control
Switch off and your key is revoked immediately
Changed your mind? Switch off from the same settings page. The connection's API key is revoked straight away, and Indie Hire removes your vehicles from the directory within a few minutes. Switching back on later picks up from where you left off.
Indie Hire will unlist your vehicles within a few minutes and your Channel API key for this connection will be revoked immediately.

Straight about what it is
Free, read-only, and never your customer's data
Indie Hire is a separate product, run by the same team as Glovebox. The key it holds for your connection is scoped to listings only: your fleet, your pricing and your locations, nothing else. It never sees a customer, a booking, a driver's licence or a payment, and there is no fee on anything it sends you.
If you already hold an Indie Hire account under the same owner email you use in Glovebox, connecting links the two instead of creating a duplicate, and Indie Hire emails that account to confirm before anything goes live.

What does Indie Hire cost?
Nothing. There is no listing fee and no commission on bookings it sends you. Indie Hire is built and run by the same team as Glovebox, as a free directory for independent New Zealand operators, not a travel agent with a cut to take.
Who takes the booking?
You do. Indie Hire shows renters your fleet and sends them to your own Glovebox booking page to complete it. It never takes the booking itself.
Does Indie Hire see my customers or payments?
No. The connection only ever reads your fleet, pricing and locations, never a customer, a booking, a licence or a payment. The key it holds is scoped to listings only.
How do I get listed?
It is a staged rollout, so ask us and we will switch it on for your workspace. Once it is on, you choose what to publish from Settings, Integrations, List on Indie Hire.
Do I need to build a new catalogue for it?
No. Indie Hire reads straight from the fleet, photos, rates and locations you already keep in Glovebox, and stays in sync automatically whenever you change them.
Can I turn it off?
Yes, any time, from the same settings page. Your connection is revoked immediately and Indie Hire unlists your vehicles within a few minutes.
